I Will

One of my favorite Psalms is the 91st. Every reading seems to bring new learning and fresh encouragements. It has what is probably one of the strongest endings of all the Psalms. Beginning in verse 14, the Psalmist represents God speaking to us. And what unfolds is breathtaking.

What does God say? He says that he will deliver. He says that he will protect. He says that he will be present when trouble is near. He says he will rescue. He promises to bestow honor. He commits to provide long life. He says that he will grant salvation.

For who? Who gets such sweeping benefits? And what unleashes such grace?

It is simple. Amazingly simple. All this is granted to the one who holds fast in love to God, the one who knows his name. Our love for the Father releases manifold blessings. How great and gracious is our God!

Read it through a few times, and may you know the comfort and joy of your Father.

Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;

I will protect him, because he knows my name.

When he calls to me, I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble;

I will rescue him and honor him.

With long life I will satisfy him

and show him my salvation.
