The daily rush and crush of life – the bad and the good things – can press out simple, profound, alter-our-perspective-and-attitude kinds of truth that would move us to joyful, change the course-of-our-day kind of worship.
The tender mercy of our God is the source of the sunrise of his Son, the Light which shatters our darkness, dispels the shadow of our death, and guides our steps into peace. Along the rays of his radiant and beautiful glory travel redemption, salvation, and the forgiveness of sin.
(Stop for a moment and read that again. Slowly. Think on each of those six things brought about because of God’s tender mercy.)
O my God, this morning I praise you for your tender mercy to me!
“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to his people
in the forgiveness of their sins,
because of the tender mercy of our God,
whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
~ Zechariah, prophesying about the ministry of his son in relationship to the coming Messiah, Jesus, found in Luke 1:76-79 (English Standard Version).
